Solar plant O&M
A solar power plant is an outdoor electrical generation facility exposed to thermal cycling, dust accumulation, and environmental degradation. Terragreen provides structured operations and maintenance for rooftop and ground-mounted solar installations. We maintain plant availability, protect structural safety, and report generation against contracted baselines under written response terms.
A Terrakraft India company. Supporting captive C&I arrays and utility-scale solar generation with certified electrical engineers and IEC-standard testing.
Scheduled preventive maintenance across four core systems
Unplanned downtime in solar plants typically traces back to small, undetected issues: hot spots on bypass diodes, loose terminal torque, or uncalibrated inverter MPPT trackers. We prevent failures through structured maintenance schedules:
PV Module Array & Mechanical Structures
- Thermographic Inspection (IR Scans): Handheld or aerial radiometric thermal imaging identifies cell hot spots, PID (Potential Induced Degradation), and cracked front glass before strings suffer permanent yield loss.
- Structural & Torque Audits: Verification of purlin clamps, foundation bolt torques, and corrosion protection across galvanised or aluminium mounting structures to maintain wind-load resistance.
- Soiling Management: Coordinated module cleaning schedules matching local dust fall patterns and water availability, using automated sprinkler loops, pressurized wash systems, or dry-brushing techniques.
Inverter & Power Conversion Systems
- String and central inverter servicing: heat sink cleaning, air filter replacement, cooling fan testing, and DC capacitor health checks.
- Firmware updates and MPPT tracking calibration aligned with OEM engineering bulletins.
Switchgear, Transformers & Cabling
- Insulation resistance (Megger) testing and contact resistance testing across AC and DC isolators.
- High-voltage transformer oil breakdown voltage (BDV) testing, moisture checks, and silica gel replacement for HT yard transformers.
Earth Pits & Lightning Protection
- Earth resistance testing across all chemical and conventional earth pits to ensure impedance stays strictly below 1.0 Ohm in compliance with IS 3043 / IEEE 80 standards.
Energy that stays on.
We maintain plant availability, protect structural safety, and report generation against contracted baselines under written response terms.
Monitoring string-level performance against your design baseline
Our O&M service is connected to cloud-based supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) telemetry:
String-Level Current Monitoring
Identifies underperforming strings caused by local shading, blown DC fuses, or soiling anomalies within hours rather than waiting for monthly utility bills.
Weather Station Correlation
Generation is continuously benchmarked against onsite global horizontal irradiance (GHI) and module temperature to calculate real-time Performance Ratio (PR).
Automated Fault Ticketing
Inverter error codes and trip signals trigger automatic alerts to our regional service teams, dispatching technicians with diagnostic details already in hand.
Upgrading or expanding your existing solar installation
Maintaining an asset provides deep visibility into your facility's actual load behavior. If your plant is expanding production, or if tariff hikes justify increasing on-site capacity, Terragreen seamlessly transitions your facility from maintenance to expansion:
Upgrade existing arrays
Upgrading existing arrays with high-efficiency bifacial modules.
Add storage
Integrating a hybrid solar and storage system to eliminate evening peak demand surcharges.
Build new capacity
Engineering a new commercial and industrial solar installation on adjacent ground or newly constructed warehouse roofs.
Questions plant engineers ask about solar maintenance
How often should industrial rooftop solar panels be cleaned?
That depends on site environment. In industrial manufacturing corridors with high ambient particulate levels, cleaning is typically required every 10 to 15 days. For clean commercial campuses, a 21-day cycle is often sufficient. We measure soiling derate on site and calibrate cleaning intervals to ensure the energy gained exceeds cleaning costs.
What happens if an inverter fails during the contract period?
Under our service agreement, technicians arrive on site within the agreed response window to diagnose the fault. If the component is within OEM warranty, we manage the warranty claim, coordinate manufacturer replacement, and execute re-commissioning. For out-of-warranty equipment, we supply replacement parts under pre-agreed rate cards.
Do you provide Performance Ratio (PR) guarantees in O&M contracts?
Yes, for qualified plants where Terragreen manages both cleaning and electrical maintenance, we provide weather-adjusted PR commitments calculated in accordance with IEC 61724 standards.
